4 Answers
I want to upgrade my PC to win 2000 from win 98, i have two ten gig hard drives in my PC, what do i do after i copy all of my files and programs and put them on my D drive? Do format the C drive and then install win 2000, and then copy everything back over from the D to the C drive? Can i just disable the D drive in the BIOS or do i have to physically disconnect it? Can someone please explain in plain english?!!!!

You have two options, first you can upgrade from Win 98 to Win2000 professional, or second you can install Win2000 in to a separate directory and have a dual-boot system.
If you choose a dual-boot system or if you upgrade from Win98 to Win2000 and you still want to access your hard drives from DOS then you will have to use the fat32 file system.
You will know if you are using fat32, as each of your 10 gig drives will have one 10 gig partition
Dont, Win 2K is still not ready, there is more bugs in this than any other OS in the market place. You would be better off upgrading to win98 2nd edition or waiting till the first service pack comes out. HP are no longer using Win 2K in any of their Workstations and are reccomending Win 98 or NT4 with SP6
ps I am a PC engineer qualified through both Hewlett Packard and Microsoft (MSCE)
Remember that compatability of applications in Win2k is not guarranteed especially with games, and if you want to convert your drive to NTFS, then beware of the difficulties of returning to FAT32 at a later date if you need to, and because of bugs, best to use NT instead. If you want to upgrade you could always try WinME, which is just up from Win98, rather than using NT unless security is of primary concern.
