I use firefox on a w7 4gb ram 64bit system and when I am on this site the cpu usage is very high. Sometimes firefox stays at 100% usage for quite some time but it regularly shoots up to 100% even when I am not doing anything else.
Any body else get that?

I've also experienced problems (using Firefox) with high CPU usage on this site. It appears to be related to scripts that can't complete properly. However those scripts always seem to be within the ads, so getting rid of the ads (using the-extension-which-shall-not-be-named-for-fear-of-annoying-the-ed) solves the problem for me.

Perhaps that's why this site occasionally crashes Firefox for me - no other site has this affect.

hmm thanks - I can see that its the plugin container rather than firefox itself with high processor use. I can see some extra use as the ads refresh but its not always the ads.
I will have to try with the extension-that-shall-not-be-named.

Which version of Firefox are you using? I'm constantly going into the Task Manager and I've not seen the dreaded plugin-container.exe (which used to be notorious for causing problems) listed for ages. I thought that it was no longer a part of Firefox. (I'm using Firefox now and I've just taken a look at all running processes. Plugin-container.exe definitely isn't listed).

firefox version 34.0.5. I think there is a slightly later one. I normally update it.
I changed the plugin container a few versions ago because when I looked at threads like mamya's music threads it used to be really slow with several youtube entries on the screen. I followed some instructions on how to cure that problem and it seemed to work. something to do with running plug-in container as a separate entity - cant remember exactly.

I'm using FF 35.0 but plugin-container.exe definitely isn't listed in my running processes. Perhaps it's because I'm using a 64-bit version of Windows 7 (and Firefox is actually a 32-bit program). Maybe it doesn't run under a 64-bit OS?

I am running 64bit w7 too.
I will see if I can find the setting I changed (or reset to default firefox)

FYI - I cant remember the setting I changed but I reset firefox and still get the plug in container.

There are several posts on the web that suggest:
(a) the old way of disabling plugin-container.exe (via about:config) no longer works ; and
(b) that simply searching for the file plugin-container.exe and deleting it does the trick (with no adverse effects on the the way that Firefox works).

Worth a try perhaps? (If you're unsure about it you could simply rename plugin-container.exe with a non-valid extension, such as plugin-container.xxx - Then, if you want it back again you can just change the file extension back to what it was).

Yes, I quite often have to delete the plugin container process to stop the processor running at 100%. Sometimes it dumps firefox as well but mainly doesnt affect it.
Ho-hum - I sometimes suspect answerbank of being 'up to something' in the background as I use other sites with similar amounts of adverts & they dont do the same at all.

You seem to be referring to using 'End process' in your post. My suggestion (based upon what I've read on the web) is to delete the file 'plugin-container.exe' altogether. It can't run if it doesn't exist!
