Have you tried putting the cursor after the black dot and then the back key?

>>>trying to set a new password for talktalk

On what device? Are you using a website on a computer or using, say, an Android phone?

If it's a computer, my first instinct would be clear all of my browsers cookies, then close the browser, restart the computer and try again.

THANKS FOR INFO
USING LAPTOP W7 FIREFOX
HOW DO I DELETE COOKIES PLEASE
Tools > Options > Privacy > Clear all current history.
Ensure that 'Cookies' and 'Cache' are both selected. (The other options don't really matter either way).
Click 'Clear Now'.

cannot see cookies cache
thanks
When I click on 'Clear all current history' (it's in blue) I get a new window, which asks me what I want to clear. The 'cookies' and 'cache' options are in there.

black dot still . in password box

Have you tried ignoring the black dot and typing in your new password?
I had something similar once and then found it was a mark on my screen.
Is the dot right at the start of the box? What happens if you type your password- does it overwrite the dot or move it?

Could you borrow someone else's laptop and try changing it on there?
Have you tried putting the cursor after the black dot and then the back key?

.when i type in an address with the dot there

Try using Internet Explorer. If you get the same problem it must be a fault with the TalkTalk website. If you don't, reset Firefox (by going to Help > Troubleshooting Information > Reset Firefox) and try again.
