Hello,

My husband bought me an eternity ring in February 2013. After a few weeks a stone fell out, Ernest Jones repaired it, it fell out again, they then replaced the ring, Same thing happened again. They replaced and same happened again. They agreed to change the style, again a stone fell out, repaired then replaced, I changed style again.
I have now had 7 rings from them and with all the time at insurers deciding what to do (ie is the repair economical or should they replace) I have only ever had a ring for a few weeks. The last one I bought on December 12th and again a stone has fallen out and I have had enough. The store are only offering a credit voucher which I will not accept as I am not going to get another one from them but as the original purchase was almost two years ago they say I cannot have a credit card refund.
My argument is that the rings are not fit for purpose, I now only wear this one socially not for work) backed up by over 100,000 negative reviews on google, 1 star reviews on the website, complaints on facebook and twitter.
Can anyone advise what rights I have and how to proceed,
many thanks

Ask for a refund of money, if they will not, contact T.S & advise the shop this is the avenue you are taking.
Once you have sorted it out, go to a proper jewellers for your next ring.
No help but I know exactly how your feel regarding your ring.

I had a similar experience with a good long standing jeweler several years ago. I still have the faulty ring with one stone missing.

In the end the Jeweler advised to only wear the ring occasionally....I will never buy an expensive ring again.
E.Jones is a reputable Jeweler Tilly
I meant an independent jewellers, rather than a chain. I should have said that.
Have you spoken to the credit card company?

I'm no expert but watching the Martin Lewis show he always mentions Section 75 - google him and it.....
It really isn't TWR, it is a retailer not a jeweller. Their knowledge of the product is negligible and I am not at all surprised by the OPs account.

It is unfortunate that so many folk believe that a presence on the High Street is considered an endorsement of quality service and products.
I'm going only on a watch that I bought from them Eccles, the service was very good.

///a reputable Jeweler/// . . . If you say so!

each new ring starts the guarantee from scratch - so you should have 2 years, they are either unaware of that or they are fobbing you off.

if you have to have another ring it may be possible to add a drop of superglue to the back of the stones if you can access them that way, just to give them some extra security
unless the rules are different for jewellery but every replacement i have ever had has started the guarantee again
With respect to Methyl' advise, you should not have to go down this route, the goods are faulty, they can not put it right, you do not want vouchers, you want your money back, it's as simple as that, If I was in yr position & they izzzzed me about, I would "take them" I would inform them that is the route you will take if you do not get your money back + expenses.
Joko, that is not correct. A replacement or repair should put you back in the position you would have been had the product been faultless with a guarantee from the date of the original purchase.

A total of seven replacements/repairs is unacceptable. Follow Methyl's advice but add that under the Sale of Goods Act goods must be of a reasonable quality and the very fact that you have had so many replacements and repairs shows that the rings do not meet that criteria. State clearly that if you do not receive a full refund within 14 days you will commence action to recover the money using the Small Claims' Procedure at your local County Court.
