I'm confused with the difference between dvd & Blu ray

Can you play Blu ray films on an ordinary DVD player?

I don`t think so. You can play DVDs on a Blu ray player but not the other way round.

Thank you - I knew it was one way round but I didn't know which way
You still need to be careful of zones too - your Blu-Ray player will only play zone 2 and zone-free discs.
Yeah well known allowed con to make one area pay more for the same thing than another (and thus keep the UK a cash cow). Not that I've checked but I think you can get software that'll ignore regions if you play them on a Blu-ray drive from your PC.
