How Safe Can You Make Your Data?
1 Answers
I use a NAS (Network Associated Drive) for backups and also keeping all my documents, photos, music, videos etc. such that I can access them from any of my devices in the home. My NAS is a small Netgear unit that contains two hard drives each storing the same data so that if one fails the other still has my data on it.
Right now it sits close to my main PC but not directly connected to it. Safe? What if we have a fire of we have a break-in?
So is the Cloud the only answer? Given questions of the security of information once it leaves our home networks (do watch the above if you've not already done so) and the possibility of political or geological unrest the physical location of your cloud e.g. Iceland, ultimately how safe can we really make our data?

For my most private files I have them in a 'locker' on my main pc backed up to a password protected portable hard drive which I keep in my fireproof safe. My main pc is connected to the internet by ethernet.
I don't think it is possible to ensure your data will never be lost/stolen/damaged.
