just been browsing a few chinese sites and i was wondering what their keyboards look like - are they full of little symbols?

Most Chinese characters consist of two parts. The Chinese keyboard features the most common 'radicals' (the first part) then you select the full character.

I've used a program called NJStar where you can write the character in roman alphabet (pinyin) then a choice of the most common characters appears with 1, 2, 3.. options etc for you to select.

Japanese uses three kinds of characters. One of which (Katakana?) comprises of a few dozen characters and is used particularly by Japanese children and for foreign words.
