Computer Virus

About ten days ago I was sent a 'video' via facebook message which I tried to open as I thought it was genuine. Turned out it was some sort of virus and several friends got it too. I did a scan but since then I am plagued with adverts popping up all over the place and sometimes they cover what I am trying to see and I can't find an x to click on to remove them. Also get voices telling me stuff (not in my head!) Two questions (well three really!) Is there any way of stopping this? Also I keep getting the message 'Firefox not responding' is this related? I have ordered a new laptop and don't know if this will be ok or will it carry over if I transfer stuff onto the new computer?

Have you scanned with Malwarebytes? If not, you can download it from here:

Make sure you download the free version, then run a full scan.

AV gets rid of viruses and the like. Some things don't qualify as they aren't destructive, and are tagged "malware". SeaJayPea's post is good advice to follow to get rid of pop up ads and the like.

To answer your last sentence there is a very good chance of you transferring a 'nasty' from your old pc to your new one if you haven't cleaned the old pc first.

I can only confirm what other ABers are saying and agree that SeaJayPea has given you the most important first step which you need to take in matters.

My opinion is that you should, Scan with Malwarebytes and then, report back in this thread for further advice.

SeaJayPea you are brilliant! I downloaded the Malwarebytes and it has cured the problem! Thank you and to all you others who confirmed it was the way to go.

The beauty of Malwarebytes is that the programme will Not conflict with your AVG; which is an excellent Virus Protection, but,as indicated by O_G, can overlook nuisance items which are classified as 'malware'.

Every Sunday morning I give my computer a scan with the free edition of Malwarebytes.

@emilylauren2490....I am inclined to believe that you have a vested interest in Comodo antivirus & antimalware. Hence the reason for your picking up and advising on old threads which have been completed.
