Over Sensitive Touchpad + User.....
8 Answers
Please be gentle with me...see above ^ ^.
I'm so sick + tired of my cursor opening nearly everything it hovers over.
Often it acts as if I've right-clicked on something.
I know there's a way of reducing this, but I get so far then I'm stuck.
I've done Control Panel, then Hardware + Sound, then Mouse, then Mouse Pointers, then Buttons.....and after that I'm lost.
Help please. Windows 8.1.

However the setting for your touchpad's sensitivity might well be within its driver software, rather than within Windows, so that's where I'd start looking. With any version of Windows other than 8/8.1 I'd suggest going to the bottom right hand corner of your screen (possibly via 'Show hidden icons') and looking for an option to open the driver settings. Unfortunately I've no idea how you do the same thing with your version of Windows (because I've never used it).
It might help if you would tell us the make and model of your laptop, please.

It's just that the USA (which seems to set the standards for such things) is still living in the dark ages ;-)
A bit of googling suggests that its a Synaptics driver that you need to be configuring. While this refers to Windows 7 it's likely that it should still apply to Windows 8.1:
