New Product From Malwarebytes?

I ran a malwarebytes scan yesterday and noticed an advert for 'anti-exploit' (free). Is this any use for an ordinary desktop (not business), and would you recommend it? My computer is running very slowly at the moment, and I have to reboot frequently; the scan detected no suspicious items so I'll try anything to improve matters.

I'd suggest the company is a trustworthy one and maybe you could test run it for us :-)

That said I'd have thought it would come under the heading of malware and should already be part of their normal scanner. Is this a permanently on real-time check ? If so it may even slow things down a little.

Yes it seems to be permanently looking for attempted exploitation of browsers, and a few other things.

Knowing me I'll probably forget it's running now, but will see if it starts to either say it's stopped things or slows down the PC. That said one is never sure what is slowing a PC when it starts to crawl. Usually a combination of things I think.

Thanks for the link, Old_Geezer. Like everything else similar, I suppose, they only offer the basic bits free and you have to pay for the more sophisticated stuff. I'll think about it over the weekend; don't want to risk it blocking anything useful, because then I get in a mess trying to sort it out again.

"Protects Java". I'd uninstall Java unless you have an application that needs it.

@TTG....what exactly is Java for? A couple of weeks ago something flashed up about a Java update,....then everything went black. I do remember folk were having problems on here due to Java a few months ago but I wasn't affected then.

Luckily this laptop is still in 1 year guarantee period, so someone from Curry's help centre talked me through a "restore factory settings".
So if I got rid of Java, what would happen?

feel free, baths.... I'm going to hijack my own thread now, though it is linked: have just had to reboot again, and noticed that the bottom of the screen (when it's loading really slowly or not at all) reads 'waiting for ping.chartbeat.net'. What is this, and is it possible to get rid of it?

Java is a programming language and can be used for as many different programming things as your imagination allows. On webpages it is often used for animations. But being code that runs when you visit, it can be malicious.

"Waiting for" is sometimes where some advert is stored and the webpage you are looking at is having issues downloading it.

I have it on my desktop it is good to have and helped me a few times .It is not intrusive and runs quietly in the background
