I phoned Sony "helpline" and I got some hopeless person in Egypt who did not have a clue what she was doing and she could not give me an answer to my technical problem why do big firms outsource their work is it because people in those countries are cheap it is bloody ridicolus there is unemployment high in this country i will never buy a sony product again.

it is murder getting through to those foreign numbers - they are supposed to be skilled but either they can't understand your accent and your can't understand their - neither the twain shall meet.

I do find very strong dialects in Scotland very hard as my niece is Scottish but I no longer communicate with her as I can't understand her - sis deals with her. When I come off the phone with a difficult accent - my right arm has rigor mortis. Is tht right?

Methyl, I wasn't being sarcastic about Indian call centres.

There are some highly skilled IT professionals there, and I have good experience of them.

There was no more of a language barrier than ringing Livingstone.

It occurs to me that, while everyone is squabbling about whether they like the use of overseas call centres or not, Gordie hasn't actually posted (either here or on another thread) about the actual nature of his problem with a Sony product.

Maybe somebody here knows (or can find) the answer anyway?
