I always advise folk to stay away from it because, if Not used carefully, it can cause irreversible damage to a Computers Operating System.

Sorry Hans...too late...been there and done it, and got the T-shirt !
Perhaps you missed my post yesterday. I am trying to free-up space on my hard disc. Its got a capacity of 186 GB, and I have currently used up 146 GB, with 40 GB still free. I have defragged yesterday and emptied my recycle bin, and that freed up about 5 GB.
I don't store any photos or movies, and I dont play any games nor do I have any loaded on the PC. I know that its a long time ago now, but in 1996 I had a Pentium 75, loaded with Windows 95. I can't recall what size hard disc it had but it was only a tiny fraction of what I have now. But I never had any of these problems. Just what is all this used space filled up with ?
If you can suggest anything else I can do ( in plain English please ! ) then I would be most grateful.

You can do it very easily. I thought I'd explained on the other thread that it is hidden in Windows File Explorer. Download Treesize Free

Let it scan your C: drive and then look for System Volume Information.
What size does it say?

mikey, I suggest you buy yourself one of these as I have done, you can save an enormous amount of space on your hard drive by moving stuff over.

Thanks Ron ! I already have a 2 TB external drive, where I have moved all my recorded operas, and photos. It works very well and I wouldn't be without it now. I can just put it in my pocket and take it down the caravan and enjoy the Ring Cycle on my laptop !
I will give your suggestion a try this morning, hc, and report back...thanks.

hc...I have downloaded Treesize thingy. It says that there is 103.9 GB in something called Windows.old.000.
It also says that there is 22.6 GB in Windows.
But its giving zero for "System Volume Information". It appears to have stopped there, so I don't know whether its failed or finished ! Is this what you mean ?
What is Windows .old.000 ?

I have done some research on this folder ::: windows.old.000, and it appears that it may contain an old version of windows, that I no longer need. So I am tempted to remove it !
Does anybody know if I will do any damage if I do remove it ? Its 103.9 GB, which is over have my 186 GB hard discs capacity, so its no wonder I am running out of space !
Waiting patiently for any help I can get !
