Windows 10

Has anyone downloaded windows 10 yet ? I cannot remember if I have registered for the download, how can I check ? I have windows 7 64 bit & am up to date with all updates.

Can I just ask, if I download Windows 10,what search engine should I use ? At the moment I use Firefox with Windows 7.

You can carry on using the firefox browser or any browser you fancy.

If you have all updates, there should be a little monochrome "window" icon in your system tray (that's the part of the taskbar on the right that also shows the clock and other items).
Click it to open.
If you've not registered, it will give you the opportunity.
If you have registered, it will have a button that says "Ok, notify me when ready"

Thanks The Chair, i do not have the Windows icon that you mention & have no idea how to get it.

I have upgraded both our machines and other some tiny issues it all went very smoothly. I can't say so far there is anything new and helpful to us but at least we aren't fiddling about trying to get it to work.

whiskeyron, you say you are up to date with Windows updates, but if you are you should get the Windows 10 icon on the task bar.

Run Windows Updates manually to ensure you have all the latest updates.

Also power off your PC and power it on again as it may need a reboot to get the icon.

there is a way to force it to download - if you dont get any joy from those suggestions above just leave a message.

I've been having problems with trying to update to W10 since first thing on Wednesday and have tried the forced update using wuauclt.exe but that didn't work either (and it also forced a download of all the installation files each time).

However (at last) what has worked for me is using the media creation tool as described here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10 - I used the Create Installation Media For Another Pc to put the files onto a memory stick so that there was no chance of having to download all 2.7GB for the umpteenth time.

Were you emptying the softwaredistribution / download folder first.

if that's ^ for me then yes and more (including using SFC and turning the update service off while clearing the system folders)

I didnt get a long enough look at your screen grab - did it say 32 or 64 bit - Win 10 can manage on 2gb allegedly - can you et me know the make and model number of your laptop or desktop
