New Phone Battery Life?

My son has bought me a new 'smartphone' a Samsung .
How long should a battery charge last?
I fully charged it at 1pm today, it has just bleeped to tell me the battery is low and it needs a recharge. I have only made one call in that time.
My old phone (so old they laughed at it) lasted 3 or 4 days on a charge.

It's not the phone calls that drain the battery, it's the apps and processes that are running in the background, and of course watching videos and playing games is a big drain.

Maybe it's been updating a lot of apps seeing as it's new.

I don't play games or use 'apps' (apart from checking my email) it still dies too soon in my opinion.

New phone batteries often need several charging cycles before they achieve full capacity, so you might find that the battery life gets better soon.

However you could also try reducing the screen brightness (which can make a BIG difference to battery life on any mobile device) and disabling any apps you don't need. This is for the S6 but most of it will apply to any Samsung phone:

Is it better to completely exhaust the battery before recharging it? This used to be the case to avoid losing cells but it is not clear if this still applies to current merchandise with rechargeable batteries.

What phone do you have? My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will easily last 24 hours with moderate usage.

Also, turn off blue tooth, just turn it on when required.

The answer to your question, Stargazer is "No, quite the opposite". In fact, it's possible to kill battery dead by completely exhausting it. Modern batteries work best if they are toppped up frequently and never allowed to run down completely.

bluetooth is definitely off, I know how to turn it on but I don't need it.
I have also turned the WiFi off and will put it on if I need it.

Opinions appear to differ between experts about levels of charge for Smartphone Batteries. Some say Never charge above 80% or discharge below 10% whereas others suggest fully exhausting a battery, once a month.

you turn off all the unnecessary apps in app manager and mobile brightness always keep on low mode, It'll be easily take 2 days battery life and you wont need to charge as you said...

It has improved since I put it into 'power saving' mode and turned off the internet connection. I am getting 24 hours on a charge now.
