Am in Italy at the moment and wi-fi working fine, ie reading all the British newspapers online, but no emails will download.
Have had no emails for two days now.
Any thoughts?

It may be the case that the local wifi access facility that you currently have working is blocking some of the necessary Internet protocol communication ports. Have you tried logging on direct to your Hotmail account via your web browser http://www.hotmail.com ?

What e/mail programme are you using.?

Try sending an e/mail to yourself and see if it arrives.

Hotmail. I know it's not working as normally I am demented with spam and now, nothing.
It says, 'Cannot get mail.'
'Connection to the server failed.'

Being locked-out from your e/mails when abroad is a security feature of Hotmail. :-

What a clever person, pinky, you are.
Do you know, I knew this and yet didn't make the connection to actually do it.
Thanks.
Good to hear that you can access your emails now Jennykenny. The mail access method is not always obvious and easy to overlook. Thanks for the 'clever' bit, not always but I do have my moments!
Good evening Jenny. I am delighted that you have been able to re-establish your E/mail connection and pleased that you have awarded a 'Best Answer' to pinkyboyid.
