Ridiculous Roof Renovations.
4 Answers
I am Not asking a question, hence the reason for my posting in Chatterbank as the altenative to 'Home & Garden..Property'.
My next door neighbour, along with others in the village, have, in my opinion, been conned into believing that the roofs of their properties (50yr old) need attention by way of preservation.......Water pressure cleaned; Tiles removed and replaced after new under-felting is laid; and then colour sprayed to its original.
What a lot of nonsense at a cost of hundreds/thousands of pounds.

From your post, that seems unlikely & a friendly word of advice from you would seem to be in order, IMO. Perhaps start by showing them the link you've given here?
If they've - as it reads to me - all been contacted by the same people & you know the company/individual's name can you do any research on the Net to see if there are any comments from past customers?
It all sounds very iffy to me.

There are so many scams going around its incredible. We nearly got caught in one, with a rental property we have. Although we are builders sometimes its cheaper to sub contract for doors windows etc. Our tenant got collared for 'free' cavity wall insulation - I spoke to the guys who were very convincing it was free, through a government scheme, did a quick ' energy survey' to verify the house was eligible and made an appointment to do it . Two days before the work was to be done I got a phone call that the 'survey' they did not not sufficient and they would need to do a further one with photos of 'elevations'. It would cost me £400 up front which would be refunded should the house be 'eligible' for free cavity insulation. I will let you use your imagination as to the rest of the phone call, suffice to say they were instructed where to place their 'elevations' in a suitable location where the sun don't shine.
To conclude -never ever trust anyone who cold calls at your house to advise you you need building work - real builders just don't do that.
