Strange Television Problem
9 Answers
I am putting up this question here, since it is more about technology than programmes. Hope it's the right place. From time to time, the picture on my television screen goes into horizontal then vertical streaks. Sound disappears. Sometimes only a few channels are affected, sometimes all but Local television and channel no. 125 - for no reason I can fathom. I suspect that the problem, which comes and goes, is worse when it's raining ! Could that be the cause, and if so how does rain affect the aerial ? and how do I get it fixed ?

But having thought about it water ingress would take out all signal on both systems. If it only affect some channels sometimes it is more likely to be electrical or atmospheric interference. Also does all the sound disappear or does it make a noise that comes through the TV speaker. Is atalanta using a sky system or a freeview digibox or whatever. Difficult to diagnose without technical details.
As has been suggested, water ingress into a connection somewhere could be the cause of the problem but there are many other possible causes. (Some are weather-related; some aren't). For details, please see my post here:

As with the thread in my link, I'd start by trying a simple signal booster. If that doesn't work, call in an aerial fitter who is a CAI member. (Well over half of aerial installers are cowboys who know nothing about what they're doing. Using a CAI member vastly increases your chances of getting a good job done). Ensure that he replaces the cabling as well as the aerial.
