After you logon successfully, to return to your previous windows version 7, continue:- - Click the 'Windows Start' icon - Select 'Settings' - Select 'Update & Security' - Select 'Recovery' - Click 'Go Back to Windows 7'>'Get started' option Then follow the on-screen instructions to restore your previous Windows 7 system.

You should try 'restart' rather than 'shut down'. It worked for me.

How can I try restart? I tried crtl alt delete but did not get the option of restart
Do you still have the problem?

If so, are you able to startup and see the usual Windows 10 logon screen?

If you can start to the logon screen, in the bottom right-hand corner you will see a 'wheel' type icon which if you click it will display 3 options, one of which is 'restart'.

If you hold down the keyboard 'Shift' key and click 'restart', then keep holding down the pressed 'shift' key, Windows will reboot into a 'Choose Option' screen. One of those options displayed is 'Troubleshoot'.

Click 'Troubleshoot' and you can then try either 'System Restore' option to revert back to a previous Windows 10 restore point, or the other to try is attempt 'Start-Up' repair.

A third option is to select 'Reset this PC' from the 'Troubleshoot' Screen. With that option it should give you the opportunity to return to your previous Windows Version, as long as it is not 30 days passed since you upgraded to Win 10.

Only 8 days ago I downloaded windows 10 all was fine.
If you press and keep holding the power button it should switch itself off after approx 20-30 secs. If you then power back on, does it start up to the Windows 10 Logon Screen?
You could try pressing the power button but I don't know how successful this will be.

Thank you pinky. Every time I tried it I powered off by holding down power button. When I switched on again this critical error message was there. But yes the windows logo was there. I tried ctrl alt delete this brought up an options list but no restart. But it also showed a power button far right at the bottom so I shut down from there. I then started it up again and it is on yes. But think I would like to know where you can go back to old windows. But thanks all for help so glad it is on again. Pinky could you point me to where you get back to windows 7 please.

Windows 10 was loaded on my pc two months ago and has been pretty flawless, just that updates and sign-on take a little time (too long). I had it loaded professionally, free as I had bought a new pc in mid-June.

thank you once again Pinky and for other answers
You say you found h Power button far right at the bottom and shut down from there. When you found the Power button at the bottom right it should offer Sleep/Shut down/Restart. That is when you click 'Restart' and the 'puter will, or should close down and restart the whole system, thereby bringing you back to where you want to be. It takes a while to go through the process but it came right for me.
