Where are you going to be using the speakers?

If it's only when your laptop's on your desk at home, you can use any main-powered speakers. So there's no limit on their power output.

However if you want to use the speakers when you're 'out & about' with your laptop, you'll be restricted to powering them from a low-powered 5V USB port. So you'll have far less choice available to you (and your laptop's battery won't last as long because your speakers will be drawing power from it)

Audiophiles might point out that there are better quality products than Logitech ones (etc) available, such as Bose, but:
(a) they cost far, far more ; and
(b) there would be little point in paying for really high quality speakers when you're only feeding them from a laptop (because the sound cards in laptops can't produce 'studio quality' sound anyway).

Just one last thought:
If you want to share the sounds with friends then, of course, you'll need some decent speakers. However if it will only be you listening to the output from your laptop, I'd recommend forgetting about speakers and buying some wireless headphones. (I love mine; I can have music blasting into my ears at 3am, as loud as I like, without my neighbour's complaining!)

Of course, "blasting music into your ears, as loud as you like" won't do your long-term hearing much good...unless you like the sound of tinnitus.

on another note i dont buy anything from currys due to a past argument is there any where else? and the cheapest chris are only 14w that wouldnt blast sound out would it?
