Bt Call Blocking Phone

I've just bought a BT8500 cordless phone, which blocks nuisance calls. It's brilliant at the job,but I have tried putting an international number onto the stored contacts but it chops off the last figure. If you save it after a call, it chops off the first 0. Has anyone else had the same problem, or found a solution please?

Is that number from a country where you might reasonably expect welcome calls (e.g. from relatives) to come from? If not, it might be simplest to block all calls from the relevant country.

For example, if the unwanted call is coming from Nigeria (and you're happy to block all calls from that country), use the 'block area code' facility to block all calls from '00234'

Thank you Buenchico. Unfortunately it's my brother in South Africa (code 0027) The number is 13 figures, and the phone will only take 12. The only alternative seems to be dial the number by hand. I've registered his number as "allow all calls", but not sure if it will recognise it,in view of above.

Sorry! I must learn to read posts properly. I thought that you were trying to block a particular overseas number.

I've looked at the instruction manual to see if there's a + button (because you could replace the initial 00 with +, thus saving you a digit) but I can't see one.

When I've used the memory stores on phones, I've been able to store just the first part of a number and add the last few digits manually. e.g. I used to have to dial quite a few numbers that started with 01473693, with three extra numbers being added to the end for specific departments within the company. So I just programmed '01473693' into the phone and, when making a call, listened as my phone dialled from its memory. When it got to the end, I simply added the last three digits manually.

So perhaps you could do something similar? i.e. store the whole of the phone number except the final digit. When calling, listen to the tones. When they stop, just add on the final digit manually.

Thank you, Buenchico, for taking the time and trouble to reply. Your suggestion was very ingenious, but didn't seem to work on my phone. I'll try BT helpdesk tomorrow though I suspect they will be unable to help.

Hi, I have one of these phones, when you receive the call from S.A. & it's your brother, go into calls & it will show, except>>Delete>>Eccept, if I have that in the right order, go to except that way the phone will except calls in the future only from this number, others from the same Country just Block them.

For the benefit of anyone else who has this problem, BT have advised me that the phone DOES store the full number, even though it doesn't show on the display. Input of number to contacts and adding to allowed calls now working perfectly.
