'balloons' On My Laptop Screen

Just recently I have noticed that if my laptop is on but I am not
actively using it, a series of what I can only describe as balloons
flit across the screen.
As soon as I begin my work again the coloured circles disappear.

Can anyone explain what is happening & what I should do to remove
this annoyance?

It means it's gone into screensaver mode. You can change the settings by right-clicking on an empty space of the main screen and select 'Personalize' and go from there.
