Dvd Playback

Problem is as follows.

- New JVC smart TV
- Old Cambridge (basic) DVD player

Hooked up the two and the picture was mainly green - then connected the DVD player to the other Sony TV (old-ish) and it worked fine.

Tried several different SCART leads and have just e-mailed JVC.

Any other ideas??

It must be a faulty SCART socket on the JVC if other leads fail and a different TV works.
Do you have any other devices with SCART output that you could try?

I had the same problem. New tv, old dvd player, green screen. Nothing to do with scart leads. Oldish dvd players wont work properly (green screen) with new tvs. You need to update your dvd player.

nailit's answer implies the SCART pin convention changed over the years.
Does your new TV hace composite video input? (usually red, white and yellow phono sockets). If it does you can buy a SCART to phono adapter and connect with a phono cable. Cheaper than a new DVD player.

bhg, dont think its anything to do with the scarts. I had a new tv last year and got green screen with my dvd. I borrowed a fairly new dvd to test (and using my old scart) and it worked fine. The problem is with the dvd not the tv or scarts. Oldish dvd are not compatable with new, modern tvs.

Yes but if the SCART can be converted to a composite signal then different electronics will be involved. It feels worth chancing a few quid to me.

Ah, see what you mean bhg. But still got a feeling that bingo may end up buying a new dvd. Might be worth him doing what I did and borrow a newish dvd player and trying that with his old scart leads.

Yes, worked a treat, new DVD/Blu Ray player - Samsung at £39.99 - did the trick. As mentioned above, SCART leads are no more, all HDMI these days.
