Anyone had an email supposedly from register at bt yahoo saying their email address has been hacked? A friend phoned tonight to say that he'd got this - thankfully he didn't click on the link that said he should.

hi wideboy

I have had several emails, usually "claiming" to be from eBay, Paypal or various banks (most of which I KNOW have never been anything to do with me which gives the game away!). It is so so important as a lot of people are not knowledgeable about the net and would just click on the link, believeing it to be valid.

DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK. IF UNSURE CONTACT THE COMPANY THROUGH DETAILS YOU KNOW TO BE CORRECT OR THEY WILL STILL YOUR PRIVATE INFORMATION.

ALL SITES WHERE YOU HAVE TO GIVE SECURE INFO OVER SHOULD START WITH HTTPS AS OPPOSED TO HTTP. IF THEY DON'T - DON'T TELL THEM ANYTHING!

I think a lot more needs to be done about this phenomenon. Only eBay seem to be taking active measues to stop these fraudsters.

oh and the "STILL" should be "STEAL" lol, i'm not illiterate - it's been a long day!

Thanks, gemmabe.

I got an email the other night which was meant to from bt yahoo saying they wanted to confirm what my new password was & asking me to click on the link.2 things were a give away straight away.

1.I hadn't changed my password

2.The email was just a plain one, there was not bt logo or anything.

I still sometimes get emails that are meant to be from Paypal regarding my account. The thing is i closed my account sometime ago.The email usually says you need to update your paypal account please click on the link.
