I am using windows 10 with Firefox on my laptop. Every time I try to get into my Virgin Media web mail account it come up with an error message. Can anyone tell me what this message actually 'means'.

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to identity.virginmedia.com. Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s). (Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird to collect my emails meantime and can also get into my emails via Google and on my Kindle. I take it that means that the problem is related to Firefox.

There are plenty of web threads which suggest that you're not alone but, regrettably, there seems to be no single solution that's guaranteed to work. So let's start with the basics:

Have you checked that the date is correctly set on your computer?

Are you sure that you're using the latest version of Firefox? (It should be 43.0.4). To check, go to Help > About Firefox. (If you've not got 'Help' at the top of your screen, right-click up there and put a tick next to 'Menu Bar')
Alternatively, if you haven't got or don't want the Menu Bar, click on the 3 horizontal lines top right, then click on the question mark at the very bottom, next to customise.

Chris & hc, I would love to say that one of you had the solution but you don't seem to have solved it.

Alas I have now been locked out of my mail box and can't even check my emails here, under the duvet on my Kindle.

I am feeling too tired and naff tonight but will have a tinker with it once I get home from my trip to the doctor tomorrow.

Try resubmitting your username including the bit after '@'

If Firefox completes the password box, then delete that and type it in manually.

My webmail with virginmedia and accessed with Firefox is fine.

I phoned Virgin media today. The lady was really nice but not able to sort out my problem. She reset the mail box and made me change my password. They managed to get into my mail box but I was still getting the sorry message. I left it for a while and it now seems to be working.

I hope that it won't do that again - I need my emails. I am using Mozilla Thunderbird as a back-up but I am not keen on the way it works.

I was getting a bit grumpy with the girl at Virgin - it must be a terrible job to do when you are having a bad day. I know that feeling well.

Until the next problem arises ...........

Meant to add. Some useful posters on their forums, worth joining.

When computers work they are brilliant but when they don't ...................

Tilly, if I try doing anything when I am tired/brain dead it usually ends in tears. Not understanding is so frustrating.
