For some time now I have been operating an iPhone 4s. Originally I had a contract with O2 but when we went rural & I discovered there is NO mobile coverage in my adopted village in Herefordshire I altered my modus operandi to PAYG & leaving my phone switched off whilst at home,only switching on when I visit the local town once weekly. Imagine my surprise when I discovered there is NO cash balance left in my account. I have checked & made sure that everything on the mobile is switched off so I am of the opinion that I have been pouring money into a bottomless pit. I have another small mobile phone which has nothing smart about it & is simply a backup which is fine for voice & text messages. I have reached the conclusion that Smart Phones are very clever because they keep smarter people than me well supplied with money.

If you do not use Pay as you go balances within a certain time they fall of the balance. It is a right con. Try contacting your provider and threaten to leave, they may well give you some back again. It is certainly not acceptable for them to just take the money. Virtual theft!

Forgot to say that my other little spare phone ( Samsung Flip) has a cash balance that hardly moves.

I was told by Vodafone that it is now law that a SIM unused for (I think) 3 months has to have its number recycled due to the shortage of numbers available. I lost the balance on my Internet SIM because of that.

My phone was eating money so went into Orange shop and asked why. The reply was that it was always roaming, looking for a network. I switched off the internet bit so only use it as a 'non' smartphone.

Sorry friends to launch in again but when I switch on my iphone is still saying searching & then changes to no signal. To avoid paying for searching can one of you techies tell me how to disable it please ?
