Can't Get Desktop With Windows 7
I have a PC using Windows 7 and recently have difficulty to get as far as the desktop when turning it on. It will occasionally open normally but mostly after hearing the opening theme it goes to a blue screen and stays there. It opens in Safe Mode.
I've tried using Windows repair but it doesn't help.
Does any member have an idea of what I should do next?

To check and repair a corrupt system file try running a Windows SFC check/repair process as per the instructions at:-

Wound'nt hurt to also perform a check disk process to check and repair for any Disk corruption as per the info:

Thanks Pinkyboyid, I tried the repair route and a system restore to no avail. I might try again though.
If I could find my Windows 7 disk I would try reinstalling Windows. However I've moved recently and lots of stuff is in store all over the place giving me an additional problem. I'll get there eventually.
Thanks for your interest.

If you have the Windows licence key (sticker on pc) then all you need to do is borrow someone elses installation disc. Providing they are excactly the same version, you should be able to do a full reinstall of Windows. This is not illegal as you pay for the licence key. You will lose everything though so this is a last resort. If the hard drive has failed, you can get a replacement 500gb mechanical drive for £25 or a 120gb solid state drive for about £50. You can also get a 'caddy' and might be able to recover files off the failed drive. Search on the net for all these terms if unsure. No room here!
You could try using the Microsoft MSCONFIG System configuration startup Tool to attempt diagnosis of the problem. See:-
http:// windows .micros oft.com /en-gb/ windows /using- system- configu ration# 1TC=win dows-7
You can search for and run the MSCONFIG program Tool via the Windows search box.

Solved it!!!
I am such an idiot. After some more fiddling about I had a thought and that was to check my monitor. Lo and behold it was set to view another screen and not the local monitor. No idea how that came about or why it was originally working sometimes and then not working randomly.
But thank you so much to all you lovely members who have given your time to offer advice.
My apologies for wasting your time.
