I have created a document with pictures and text (using the cutting tool, copy and pasting etc) and am now trying to give it a coloured background, but when I do there are a couple of square areas which aren't 'taking'. How do I rectify this pls ? TIA
Presume you are using Format>Page>Background to add the background colour? If you click around the edge of the problem 'square areas' does the square highlight or display edge lines, if so, try using delete to remove them.
I'm pleased that Pinky fixed it for you but, in case it helps in future, I'll mention that for complex document designs it makes far more sense to use proper DTP software than to use any word processor. This freebie is excellent:

I'm stuck again now ! Could you how to delete on of the pages of my document pls ? It's got nothing on it but it's somehow attached itself and won't let go ! TIA
To delete, say, page 3, you probably only need to put your cursor at the very start of page 4 and then hit 'Backspace' until you get back to the end of page 2.
If that doesn't work, please tell us what happens when you try it.
