Overwritten data files - CD ROM

I've accidentally written to a CD that had some old data files on it. I can now only see the new ones. Is there a simple (and cheap) method/utility of seeing the old files? Or have I just waved bye bye to them?

They're probably gone though there is a possibility, provided the CD wasn't full or near full, that the new files were written to spare space and the file directory updated (same thing as will happen to a hard disk). In this case the files are still there and should be able to be read with an appropriate utility. I wouldn't bet on it though :-(

Because you added files onto the CR-R at a later date you have written to a seperate "session" on the CD-R, older CD drives are only able to read the last session on a CD-R. Try your CD-R in a newer CD-ROM drive and I am sure you will be able to read the lot.
