Definitely weird!
Try resetting Firefox to its default settings:
Firstly, note down the names of any extensions that you've got installed (such as Adblock Plus) and wish to retain. To find them, click on the 'hamburger' icon (three horizontal lines, top right), then on 'Add-ons' and 'Extensions'.
Then click on 'Help' and 'Troubleshooting Information', followed by 'Refresh Firefox'. (If you can't see 'Help', at the top of your screen, right-click up there and put a tick next to 'Menu Bar'). Reinstall any extensions you need.

There is a way of loading a website in the sidebar.
With your BT Internet bookmark try right clicking on it and going down to properties. There is a tick box there that says "Load this bookmark in the sidebar". Is that ticked? If it is then try unticking it.
You can then close the sidebar (the X on the top right hand side of the sidebar)
Hope it works.

Thank you stoofur, I will try it tonight, I'm using the iPad at the moment and the email feature is ok on this, but I can,t figure it out on the laptop. It does appear on screen like a sidebar, while the home page for the Mozzilla takes up most of the screen. I tried refreshing Firefox but it hasn't solved it, but thanks Chris for your advice.
