I think you can now have Whatsapp on your computer but only if you have it on your phone first. It will make calls via your phone even if you access it from your computer

I'm afraid I don't have a smart phone Prudie.
Just tried that. Bit put out. The PC screen is via a website, implying they are keeping all my messages, not my mobile.
Sorry Barsel then I don't think you can use it without a phone.
According to Wikipedia, Whatsapp is available for the 'Windows Phone' operating system but not for desktop versions of Windows:

For Windows PCs, consider using . . .

Skype

WeChat

(Use the download link marked 'New')

Thanks all. The reason I'm asking is so my son in law can send me pics and videos of my grandchildren as he said the files are too big to send by email but said he could send them on whatsapp. Is there any other way he can send them to my computer?
Can you do that via Facebook? I don't know.

I don't know Tilly, but I am on Facebook.
Question Author
Sorry Tilly, did you mean put the pics and videos on Facebook for me to see? I know he wouldn't want to do that. x
Oh, ok, Barsel. Just a thought.

Can't they be private in some way? I have absolutely no idea. I'm a Luddite.
Hiya Barsel.
Yep, he could send the pics to you in a PM in FB, or by email?

Oh sorry, just re-read it and he said email is no good.

You need to find a hosting site where he can upload it for free and you can download it from there.
You could look at Dropbox, I share pictures like that with my daughter
Get your SIL to open a free email account with GMX:
http://www.gmx.co.uk/
(NB: I'm NOT suggesting that he needs to actually use the account for email purposes at all. It's just a facility that comes with the account that he'll find useful).

Once he's got an account, he'll automatically be given 2Gb of free online storage with it. All he needs to do is to create a folder within that storage space and then upload his videos to it. There's then an option to email you a link, so that you can access the contents of the folder. Easy peasy!

Thanks everyone. That sounds just the ticket Chris. Will tell my s-i-l about that.x
