Adding Ram

About 6 months ago I bought a PC with standard 8Gb RAM, but I've been trying to run a driving game and the framerate is awful – probably less than 1fps. Just wondering how much extra RAM can be installed on a modern machine; could I get up to 32Gb, even 64Gb?

Depends on the motherboard, but if you go to crucial.com, they have an app that can analyse your PC and advise you whether an upgrade is possible, and if so, the best combination of chips.

Having said that, I doubt if increasing the RAM will speed up your machine for playing games. You probably would be better of upgrading the video card (most games rely on the GPU to do all the calculations required for positioning and rendering the graphics)

...if you bought the machine "off the shelf" it probably uses a built-in Intel graphics adaptor using DDR3 memory (or possibly even sharing the motherboard RAM).

Excellent info! I can only upgrade to 16Gb so, like you say, I'll need to look at improving the graphics card.
I've got the feeling that having Firefox open in the background didn't help - surprised how much resource that takes up.

8gb of Ram is more than enough at the moment. You need a decent graphics card. Base your choice on motherboard and cpu as well as price. If you post your pc specification here, I am sure we can advise further.
