when at home and your phone is connected via wifi to your router, does that over ride the data usage of your allowance or does it still use part of your package and should the mobile data be switched off

it overrides as you can set most phones to take wifi where available rather than your allowance.

Thanks for your answer, I'll try it without switching the data off from now on
If you have an iPhone you may want to turn off Wi-Fi Assist. It is located under Settings - Mobile Data the scroll all the way to the bottom. With it switched on it will use your data allowance to improve Wi-Fi connectivity. You probably don't need it so switch it off.
