I have just had a wonderful scam call, at 08:41 (!), from a chap with a very pronounced Asian accent.

"Good Morning Sir !....my name is Jason, and I am calling from Microsoft"

I told him, very brusquely, that he was wrong on both accounts...."I very much doubt your name is Jason, and no, you aren't calling from Microsoft"

I then said goodbye, in a very Anglo Saxon manner.

Do these people think we are all weak in the head ?

It's a tragedy that some folk are caught by the Scam.

I said to one chap who announced himself with a uk sounding name, "Is that your real Christian name" and he shouted back at me " I'm not a Christian" and duly cut-off the call.

Hans.
to get rid of the problem once and for all have a look at the BT 8500 - it only lets through the calls in your address book and gives you the chance to block these sort of calls very easily.
I had a belter at work last week. Still have no idea what it was about but it certainly entertained my customers. Still gives me the giggles too!

It annoys me no end these stupid calls. We keep getting one about National Database and PPbloominI all recorded messages.

It was the early timing of the call that surprised me more than anything else.

I sometimes get work-based phone calls at that time, and that is why I picked it up, otherwise the answering machine would have taken care of it.

I can understand how someone might be fooled by the microsoft bit, but did this chap really expect me to believe his name was Jason ?
I think they phone early hoping that folk are still half-asleep and will not realise it's a scam.
if your indian friend was calling from india it was lunchtime

Good for you Mikey!

You have clearly learnt from yesterdays experience when you told people 'gently' and today you took the bull by the horns and told this guy 'brusquely'!

Credit where credit's due! :o)

Well, ordinarily I might have been tempted to tag this twit along, and have some fun with him, but I was just about to do my morning ablutions, so decided short and sharp was the order of the day !
^ well, you're not wet behind the ears where cold callers are concerned!

They are the scourge of society along with those holding clipboards in the middle of the local high street!
Oh the very devil, he called me here in Spain and I thought I was special!
I had one who said his name was Keith/Kevin/somethin Beckham. :)
I had one about Windows.

"You have windows?"

"Yes a lot of them."

"Eh"

"Over 50 of them, in fact. Are you a window cleaner - I've been looking for someone to clean them."

"Eh?"

"I take that as you will be interested. Tell you what £30 for the job, a free lunch of roast pork and a pint of scrumpy cider."

"zszszszszszszszszszsz" from the phone line.

A few weeks ago, I had some entertaining fun with a similar Asian-sounding chap, by speaking Welsh to him, mixed with a tiny bit of English. After a few minutes, he gave up !
Mikey, you could really have confused him in your first language - double dutch!

:o)

I only know a few words in Welsh, and most of them are rude !

Just had another call, this time from "Jenny" !

But she didn't speak Welsh either, so she was gone in seconds !
When I get these calls I go through my full range of bird / animal impressions. They usually hang up half way through the frantic chicken :-)
