I was reluctant as well, but having Windows 10 is the best thing I have done, Only my opinion though.
Nothing stopped working for me when I upgraded two desktops from W8.1, one laptop from W7 and an underpowered Nexus 7 tablet running W7.

I have a wireless printer, a NAS and everything is networked. Not a problem.

One exception - Windows Media Center no longer works but there were better free alternatives that I used anyway
A lot depends on which of the older apps. you are using TTT. Some have had problems with older versions of some photo editing and word processing programmes. Nothing insurmountable though. If you have probs. just post in tech. and legions will help. Off topic but don't miss Last of the Whites of the East End. BBC1 Tues 10:45. Notice how late it is on?

cheers eddie, where are "installed updates"?
Tora, I had a slow, laggy, Windows 7, on my laptop.
I installed Windows 10 and it is a huge improvement.
Much faster and easy to operate.
Only thing lacking is a rhyming slang translator!

I just heard that early on routers stopped working or something can't quite remember the details. I also am weary of windows "improvements" that tur out to be a pain in the proverbial, windows 8 for example was an abomination. I like 7 I even liked vista and XP so how different is W10?
I have used them all 3T, w8 and w8:1 were woeful. W10 has all the best of all the different systems. hc is a proper w10 aficionado having been part of the control group during the development stage. I downloaded it on day 1 and love it.
I've upgraded a laptop and pc from W7 to W10 with no problems apart from getting more up to date drivers in just two cases. Everything runs fine and in fact one program runs a lot better than it ever did in W7.
I reluctantly installed it a little while. No problems and much, much better than Windows 8.
@hc4361

On your Win7 machine, did you have anything like OEM MS Office installed?
Would I be forced to shell out for Word, Excel and anything else M$ wants another 300 quid for?

This is the kind of thing I've heard not enough about.

As it was, Win 7 wouldn't support old faves, like SimCity4 (Deluxe Edition), not even in "compatability mode". Something about an old .dll which is no longer supported. (Not that lappy gfx would be up to it).

Anyway, lesson learned, back then and none of us trust Win10 with backward compatability issues, pending tales of woe, or joy from those more bold (and less addicted) than us.

You get the picture?

The other factor is "if it's free, what's the catch?" Business brain (such as it is) wants to know how they make money out of millions of freebies?
At the end of July the nagging for a free update will cease and after that you will have to pay to get out of the Windows 7 cul-de-sac.

p.s. I've had W10 installed since it was first available and have had no problems with it.
Why is it free? Most people never buy a version of MS operating systems during their computing life - they buy a new pc with the latest version installed. The cost of the OS is incorporated in to the overall cost, as it now with new machines with W10 installed. From the end of July this year there will be no free upgrades - if you want to upgrade you will have to pay.

I don't know if your OEM Office will work. If it doesn't you won't have to pay out £300+ for a new licence as MS Office 365 costs £79 a year for up to 5 devices, including Android devices

I stopped using MS Office years ago and find the free substitutes more than adequate for my needs, and totally compatible with Office
If you got MS Office with the original install disks then you should be ok. I've installed MS Office 2003 with the original disks on my W10 machines.
He has the OEM version, so no disks
TTT put 'Windows Updates' into your search box, it will show you, installed updates, update history, available updates.
Question Author
ok i did part 1 I uninstalled KB3035583, but it was not in the list of "available updates"
^^ Unless you now 'hide' it , it will just reappear in a day or two.
I uninstalled it 5 times and it just came back until I hid it.
Question Author
yes but it is not in "available updates"
It will reappear in available updates in a day or two, I found that as well.
