Microsoft Accused Of Windows 10 Upgrade 'nasty Trick'

I've been resisting upgrading since the boxes first started popping up on my screen, but a couple of days ago the usual box changed to the one depicted in the link below - and although Microsoft say "Customers can choose to accept or decline the Windows 10 upgrade", I could find no way to decline it. I now have Windows 10 that I didn't want.

This is a 'nasty trick' and although it doesn't seem to have caused me any problems it doesn't smack of good business practice to me. Has anyone else been 'tricked'?

I seem to recall rumours that it'd be forced on folk after a specific date.

Can you not roll it back ?

I think you have 30 (?) days to return to your original operating system.

I overheard people at work talking about this...can you explain - you get a pop up box, but couldn't you hit the X at the top right hand corner to get rid of it???

(Sorry, at home, I'm on a Mac, so I've no idea how it now works on Windows).

Even if it is, it's a bit cheeky - you may have installed software which might not work with the new version of the operating system.

But on the plus side - everyone I know who has upgraded actually likes it a lot.

Tried that - it refused to go. It gave me the option of changing the date and time it suggested for the upgrade, but that's all. I couldn't get rid of it until I'd agreed.

Microsoft changed the upgrade from optional to recommended so if you have selected to install recommended updates as most people have then you have agreed to it being installed

you did get that but SP but latterly you got a box with 2 choices upgrade now or schedule in the near future, vee have vays of making you upgrade!, no way to ignore, even delete from task manager would not work. Fortunately GWX does work. http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/
quite safe I have it and Norton approved as did malware and all the other gubbins I have.

Now many have say W10 is fine, I heard a few horror stories early in but that's not the point, it should be a choice.

sp, it is a free upgrade, and it hasn't caused me any problems. As I said it's the principle.

sp1814, no, clicking on the top right hand corner X actually triggers the installation; that's the nasty bit. You presumably have to click on the "cancel upgrade" panel. Which I will do as I am happy with WIndows 2 or whatever it is I've got.

Or would you have to reboot your machine?

That's quite...hmmm...there's a word for it, but it's on AB's list of banned words.

It's not much of a warning really. There's nothing you can do about it. I think it’s disgraceful really.

Sp, no, the box won’t close. If you want to use your computer you have no option but to go ahead.

it says you can click on the panel in the middle to cancel the upgrade

jno, I saw no 'cancel upgrade' panel. I tried everything to get rid of it.

ah. I'll have to watch out for it, I haven't had a reminder for a few days now.
