Update For Dannyk13
22 Answers
Hi All,The latest update in the sorry saga of woe. :-(
Yesterday Mrs retro and I were up at sparrow fart (0600) to attend St Georges Acute Medicine Dept. We were instructed on Monday to get to the unit at 0900 to get bloods done and then go for a echogram on the heart so results would be ready for 1100 appt back at AMD. We arrived in good time if not in good order as the bus journeys left me struggling for breath and speech. Had bloods done and presented ourselves, still gasping, at echo dept.We were expected and told to take a seat and the receptionist (Joe Brand lookalike) said she would try to fit me in a gap but couldn't guarantee a slot but never mind I had a fixed app time at 1610hrs!!!I told her my appointment was 1100hrs and they wanted results present with me. Joe said she would do the best she could. I told her I would be getting on a bus very quickly as I was not prepared to sit around the hospital from 0900 to 1610 doing nothing. She came back after about an hour and said I was next for the echo. I was getting very uncomfortable(kidney pain) and breathing was not too good. Joe Brand came over and said I didn't look very well and she was sorry for the wait but 'more in' patients had arrived unexpected. Trying to keep my cool I explained that most of the 'in-patients' and out patients looked considerabley better than I was feeling and as I considered the hospital had screwed up and left me in an acute medical condition that had not troubled me pre- op it may be in their best interest to ensure tests are done as a matter of priority and start a damage limitation exercise asap.I reminded her that my appointment was at 1100 with AMD and I should have echogram results to take with me. She waddled off saying she would do what she could. Ten minutes later she came back with a big smile that suggested she was pleased with herself and was waving a sealed envelope."There you go. Here is a echogram which is quite recent that you can take back to Acute Medicine Dept. It is dated about early April"!!I hesitated to ask her if the echogram was (a) actually mine or (b) April !! Which year??I told her that as my functions were impaired not more than 10 days in her hospital I rather thought the consultant would like the latest up to date result and not an ancient comparison.I was now not a patient patient and was losing my breath, speech and composure. A discussion with Elmer Fudd would have been more productive and enlightening. The 30min echo was done about 15 mins later and I got back to Acute obviously before the results.. Bad news: B.P. Up to 204/80 I had to be given a pill immediately as that was dangerously high. I could not resume Lisinopril BP tablets because it affects renal function. I have now been prescribed Amlodipine which I started this morning. Had to wait 1 hour for the hospital pharmacy to lob one box of pills over the counter. More Bad News: My creatinine level shot up from 140 (Monday) to 190 (yesterday). It had been steadily dropping from 227 to 165 on discharge (Sunday) :-) Now taken off diuretics and liquid intake increased to 1 1/2 litres daily.. I went to bed about 1930 last night (exhausted) and slept well til 0630.I am back to face the ordeal at Georges tomorrow at 0900hrs where a further blood /creatinine check and a renal ultra sound scan awaits. At least my scan appt time is firmly fixed as my slot and I won't spend another full day there!!! 8hours on Monday and 6 hours yesterday.. I worked out that each day I was receiving 90 mins actual clinic time and the rest was sitting around waiting. I just hope I have a free week to myself next week. All for now. This typing is leaving me breathless :-) Will update the latest fiasco from St Georges (Tomorrow) sometime in the weekend maybe.
Still coughing up a little blood and have liquid in my lungs.

I drove an hour to York yesterday for a follow-up hospital appt. and waited an hour past the appointed time. Then told 'seems OK come back in 2 months' - a dispute followed because the 2 mths. referred to last time turned into 5 mths.. Nothing compared you your problems. Take care, thinking of you and rooting for you. xx
