Hello,

For reasons I can't be bothered to explain, I can't get Sky so I've had to make do with Homechoice.

I'd really to buy something that will let me record, pause, rewind TV in the way that Sky Plus does.

I know nothing about this, I'm a total technophobe, so any advice would be great.

Homechoice? Is that a freeview thing?

I've got one of these :

It does the same as Sky+ but with freeview instead.
i have the LG 7500 DVD recorder with hard disc which can pause live TV and doesn't need a subscription. Buy a cheap Freeview box if you don't have one.

Ah - another Homechoice user!

I've got a Panasonic DVD recorder that lets me do just that  - hit record then you can pause/stop/rewind while still recording. Mine's just the DVD recorder but they do them with disk drives too (DVD-RAM disks store up to 6hrs but can be erased). The only issue I have with Homechoice is the lack of timer settings on the EPG....

As a bonus, you can record all the Video on demand channels onto DVD-R for use in other DVD players :)
