I recently received an attached Word document, but it was a docx one.

When I tried to open it a window popped up stating, Mail Attachment, do you want to open this file?

I clicked yes, and the following came up.

This file does not have a programme associated with it, for preforming this action create an association in the Folder Options Control Panel.

Has anyone any idea How I can open this file?

I am running Windows XP with Word.

Its probably time now to upgrade your windows XP.

The docx file is simple a word document written on a newer version. Can you ask the sender to resend as a pdf? That would be readable on xp.
You should be able to open it in OpenOffice, I think you use that.

GoogleDocs will also open it.

Just a thought. If you have Microsoft Works on your pc (a lot of XP pcs shipped with this) that will open it
Maydup, its nothing to do with upgrading windows XP (operating system). Its the word programme it was typed in being a newer version than on his AOG's computer..

AOG, open in Open Office.
I use Libre Office.
Worth installing for just such occasions.

Thank you for all your answers.

I received the Docx file attached to an Outlook Express email.

This being the case How do I open the said attached file in Open Office?
If you double click the attachment, it should give you option to save. Save it, open OpenOffice, open file, select the file you have just saved.

Or you might be able to open straight from Outlook if you right click the document, the option "open with" should appear showing OO.
