I've had an unsolicited call from "The Tech Helpline" offering services to computer users. Does anyone know anything about this company? It sounds a bit dodgy to me as they called out of the blue.

Scam for sure. Do not give them any information not even your name, and certainly do not let them take control of your PC. Do not give bank details or passwords. If you have hung up on them Dudley they will ring back at some stage, so warn everyone in the house who answers the phone.

Scammers
No I don't but my understanding is all cold calling offering PC help is usually a scam and you should put the phone down. If you know you need help with PC issues then go to someone reputable in person - even if it's PC World!
Scam !

or you could have a bit of fun and keep them talking about the weather or anything.
only “a bit” dodgy? I reckon they are as dodgy as Mayor Dodgy of Dodgytown from the Planet Dodgy.
Nicely put, woofgang.
So what have you got against entrepreneurs with strong business acumen
for one thing, its illegal to cold call someone if they are on the telephone preference register. Dudley, if anyone phones you and says they are from talktal technical department, the central server, your bank, the internetserver technical department or any other technical sounding name it is a scam. You can hang up if you like, i prefer to play games with them. pretend you are wandering round the house looking for the computer.
