What would you consider to be the best invention of the last century? I would have to say WD40, as I can`t live without it! Any more unusual ones?

It was the transistor which brought about solid state electronics. Without it's invention we'd have no computers, internet, cash machines, mobile phones, MP3 players, cars with electronic ignition, fax machines, answering machines, digital radio, digital TV, moon landings, satellite technology, video recorders, DVD players, body scanners, heart monitors, microwave ovens, ..... and so on!
On the other, as I reach for another can of beer, perhaps the ring-pull should be considered nearly as important :-) ?

Just for clarification: A 'tranny' is normally used to refer to a 'transistor radio'. My reference to a 'transistor' refers to the things which went inside the radio. Originally, they were small, individual electronic components with three wires sticking out of the end. Nowadays, every chip in your computer contains many thousands of transistors. They might look different but they're still in every piece of electronic equipment in the world. Without transistors you couldn't have asked your question!
