I want to be able to make Screen Grabs from things like Youtube clips and DVD's. Whilst I'm a big admirer of Photoscape, things can get a bit erratic when screen grabbing from movies

It's the damn toolbar that causes the problem: sometimes I can avoid it, other times the toolbar is there at the bottom of the captured picture. I try to keep my procedure the same, but it seems to strike at random, depending what mood it's in. The picture has to be rolling for a few seconds to avoid getting the toolbar, but sometimes I'm going to get it anyway

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I can't see what

Alternatively play DVDs using VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.en_GB.html and press Shift-s to take a snapshot. (By default snapshots are saved as .png files but you can change that to .jpg, and determine where the files are saved to, via Tools > Preferences > Video > Video Snaphots). Youtube videos can be saved to your hard drive first...

Why not simply pause the video and use the Windows Snipping Tool?
(Start > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool)

Ooh, it's a long time since I've used Snipping Tool, but I'll give it a go. Pausing the video, though, can be asking for trouble

Youtube videos can be saved to your hard drive first (using a suitable browser extension) and then played in VLC.

That's how I usually take video snapshots.

No, Snipping Tool doesn't work. It only worked on small screen and I still got the progress line
VLC is so much easier!

Hello again, Buenchico

I've downloaded VLC and I'm currently Watching the Mary Tyler Moore Show from 1970! I still can't find a way to make a Screen Capture. Can you explain to me how I can do this?
Firstly, go to Tools (at the top of your screen) and then to Preferences. Click on the Video tab. Look for the Video Snapshots section and change the file format (which your snapshots will have) from png to jpg. Click on Browse and navigate to where you want your snapshots to be stored. (e.g. the My Pictures folder).

Once you've done that (and a video is playing) you can take a snapshot either by clicking on the Snapshot button (it's second from the left on the top row of buttons) or by pressing the Shift key and 's' simultaneously.

Go the the relevant folder (which you specified in the initial settings, above) and double-click on a snapshot to view it.

@Buenchico: Thanks, VLC works pretty good in conjunction with Photoscape, at least when I'm making screen grabs from a DVD. Now though, I need to find a way to do it properly when I screen-grab from things like Youtube.

A partial success, but a step in the right direction
