Bt Internet Scam?

Asian chap has just rung to say after 24 hours my internet will be disconnected. I said thanks for letting me know and hung up. Scam?

Did you ask why? BT Broadband are based in India.

Do you have BT broadband?
If so I would have at least asked why and then maybe whether he had any info on my name, account etc- but I'd make sure not to give any info away or let him have any access to my PC

If it happens again, blow a large raspberry and hang up. Failing that if you have any toddlers in the house, pass the phone to them ! You could also start talking in Welsh, as that works for me.

Thanks all. Yes I have BT broadband, but it was a bad line and I couldn't fully understand what he was saying hence my ending the call. If he rings again, I'll ask some questions. If he doesn't, I guess I'll know the answer if I still have broadband after 24 hours.

I had similar call about my BT Broadband today as well. Indian chap who I could hardlly understand. More or less did the same as you.

i wouldn't mind betting that people without internet connection have received calls from him ...

There are a lot of Indian chaps employed by BT who are excellent at their job but the "Indians" who make these calls are calling from India or from some place 5000 miles away. Even if you cannot understand what they are saying the conversation begins by them asking "are you the owner of this computer" and then giving some rubbish advice saying your computer is in danger and to go and open up some website so that they can fix it for you. Avoid them like the plague.
