virus damaging their own computer?

if someone is creating a virus-how do they stop it infecting /damaging their own computer-or do they always use someone elses?
also can 2 or more viruses on a infected pc-conflict and cancel/nullify each other?

That's the main difference, having the virus on your PC is one thing. Having it running and executing is another.
Also, I can't remember the names of them (and can't be bothered to look them up) but there was definitely one virus which infected PCs and left them vulnerable to further attack. a 2nd virus was written which detected this, infected the PCs and cleaned the first one.
Not so bad that it cleaned the first one and removed it but it still left you infected with another.
