P O P E-Mail Connection Issues
10 Answers
This is driving me crazy. Tuesday Yahoo Mail had some kind of issue and for most of the day I could not connect my MS Outlook 2003 client to send and receive e-mails. Eventually there was some improvement, in that at least my mobile, using an Android app, was finally able to connect. But of course it does not have access to my present conversations, for which I need the PC access.
I expected things to improve by today, but they have not. I've checked the settings on the client and they seem fine but on testing I keep getting the message that POP3 has rejected my username and password.
It is a nonsense of course because the mobile still connects fine (probably doesn't now as, in desperation, I changed the password: it didn't help the PC but it means the mobile will need to have the settings edited now :-( )
I'm unsure what else to do. It was working before their outage. There was some reference to checking ports being blocked but I'm unsure how to do that, but there's no reason then there should be a change in the ports anyway.
Any suggestions on how to fix it ?
Cheers.

You can check your POP3 settings here, http://www.s etup-outlook .com/outlook 2003yahoo.ph p Much better to set them up as IMAP though as explained in the other ^^^ links

If you use pop then your sent emails are on whichever device you sent them from
If you use imap then it doesn't matter whar device you use as its all stored on the yahoo server instead of on the device.
Check each device and see what the settings are - if one device works then try its settings in another device.

Well all I know I tried to use IMAP before and there were problems but too long ago to remember why. I was under the impression it wasn't supported. The instructions for setting up the account seem to be written around creating a new account rather than checking the existing one. But I'll give it a try anyway and report back on success or failure.
Ah an immediate update ! Looking at http:// www.set up-outl ook.com /outloo k2003ya hoo.php I see a box has changed. it says that the user name must have the @yahoo.co.uk on the end but that wasn't the case in the past and other web help pages do not show/say it needs that. Up until now only the E-Mail Address box needed that ! But the test account settings has finally passed.
I think they must have changed something. It must have been optional until this week and now is demanded.
I think I may be back in business, thanks. I'll spend some time testing it out.

Still getting intermittent issues, if anyone has a thought on the cause ...
Sometimes I hit Send/Receive and all is well. Other times it'll download one or more e-mails, then it'll claim there was an issue; and if I hit Send/Receive again I get the same e-mails downloaded plus any more there. Other times it goes back to asking for the password that it already obviously knows, but if I hit to use the password it already has each time it asks, it finally decides it can accept it.
It's weird.
