How can I tell if the DVD player in my Lenovo Desktop will play Region One dvds ?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.As Tuvok says, you can change the DVD region on a computer but only a few times before your computer's DVD drive becomes permanently locked to the last region you entered. Further, you're not offered the option automatically when you insert a DVD from a different region. (You simply get an error message). So you have to go via the Device Manager to do it:

(That's for Windows 8 but it's basically the same for any version of Windows).
I buy quite a few international DVDs and use a multi-region player. If you think it likely you'll be buying other non-European DVDs in future, such a player could be a worthwhile investment:

^^^ A cheap DVD player purchased in the UK will only play Region 2 DVDs. (There's a legal obligation on the manufacturers to ensure that their products can only play DVDs from the area where they're sold). The only exception is where the player has been hacked to make it 'multi-region', as the one in my link above has.
