When Is A Call Centre Not A Call Centre?

Just had cause to ring for a plumber and called the freephone number and the bloke wanted to know what area the plumber was needed.

I need the plumber on the south coast and the office is in Hartfordhire.

Oh so your in a call centre then.

No it's not a call centre there are just some blokes here taking calls for plumbers all over the place.

Is there a new definition of call centre or am I thinking of something different? Lol

There are so many negative thoughts surrounding call centres they are probably trying to distance themselves.
Think of it as a contact centre instead.

I think the standard definition of a Call Centre is an office within a large organisation that employs staff to either sell its products directly, or to respond to incoming sales enquires, and also to deal with customer complaints. Thewy usually employ massive amounts of staff, and if they are anything like the call centre in ths building, they have a similarly massive turn-over of staff and a hige sick absence problem.

So no, I don't think your central plumbers' work routing team are really a Call Centre.
