More Problems With Avast
9 Answers
When I switch on my computer in the morning, I get an alert from Avast telling me that Avast needs to re-start my computer.
Since my computer takes a while to load up after switching it back on, this is so annoying so I have now chose to click on the postpone button and set it to do the operation in 4 hours time.
How can I prevent this please?

Yo may have Defender installed if you ran Microsoft security upgrades on an older system. You do not need Avast if you have Defender and they do clash. Although Avast does automatically turn off Defender when installed there are some settings that kick in after updates of either, this can cause you conflict. Have you tried un-installing avast, reboot. Install avast reboot? Plus are you using the free version of Avast or are you paying for a premium version AOG? This has been a problem with avast for years, I have had it myself and remember having to enable something in settings. I have no third party bolt on security and use defender only it is perfectly adequate for "normal" browsing on safe sites. I would be tempted to un-install Avast and enable Defender
//The issue could be caused by an unfinished update process and the system is apparently not able to replace files with their updated version even during the boot process for some reason. Without investigation which particular file is responsible, this can be resolved by reinstalling AVG Free Edition completely//
Just found this on an Avast tech forum AOG. Could be I suppose. I am still trying to hunt down what it was that I reset years ago when we had the same issue.

Thank you all for taking the time to answer my problem.
AB Editor:
It happens every time I start my computer in the morning, I suspect it is because it is late in kicking in, because Windows security also warns me that my computer is at risk.
Togo:
I'm afraid my computer is as ancient as myself, I am still operating on Windows XP, from all accounts the best Windows operating system.
Since Windows announced that they no longer support XP I don't feel that I should depend on their security system.
So should I now remove Avast and reinstall the same or remove Avast and install AVG once again?

I think I would in your case AOG. Some hints before proceeding may save you bother in the long run. Try not to rush AOG read through this and find all the bells and whistles before starting. First try this.
"Go to your security settings and Select..
Remove programs, select 'Avast Anti-Virus,' Click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, Click Next and follow the instructions." On completion close down and reboot. If it has not worked try this.
Un-installing Avast, reboot. Install latest version of Avast reboot?
Now it is notoriously difficult to completely uninstall Avast. You may find that you need this to completely uninstall it.

It may also be worth checking that you are allowing an Un-install running by going to the Access Protection Panel in Avast settings. UNCHECK the Deleting file option in the following list.
"Opening the file for writing"
"Renaming file"
"Deleting file"...........Uncheck this.

Sorry if it is not too clear I am doing most of this from memory. It may be worth waiting to see if an Avast user comes along with an easy answer. Or Ed sets the tech hounds onto it. :))
