AMD is generally cheaper and in my opinion you get more bang for your buck with them. The only thing I would say is make sure you go for a mobile varient of either AMD/Intel processor unless you dont mind the machine getting very hot, having no battery life and the fan in your laptop sounding like a jet engine.

KT84, yes I'm sure thats a contribiting factor, the Celeron is a low cost varient of the desktop Pentium 4 processor with a reduced cache size to save costs. Really your ideal processor for a laptop would be one with the Centrino chipset (Intel) or the Turion processor (AMD), both designed for laptops.
If your laptop is very noisy you could also try buying a can of compressed air and using it in the vents to clear out dust (make sure your puting it in the vent that sucks in air) as its amazing how much it builds up and reduces airflow. Also check your power settings in the control panel to make sure you have it set up correctly.
