How Connect Dvd Recorder With One Hdmi Socket To Tv & Tv Box?

Hi, I have just bought a Panasonic DMR-EX97 Freeview hard drive recorder which only has one HDMI socket (no SCART). I also have a Virgin TV box. I want to be able to record from the Virgin TV box (as well as the freeview channels), which also has only one HDMI socket (and one SCART). My TV has 2 HDMI sockets & one SCART. How do I do it?! I dont understand - if I get an HDMI switch, which piece of equipment do I put it in the back of - the HDD or the Virgin Box?

I strongly suspect that your Panasonic can only record from its own Freeview tuner. The HDMI socket will bo output only. You can connect the output HDMI from the Virgin box to one HDMI socket on your TV and the output HDMI from the Panasonic to the other HDMI socket on your TV but you will NOT be able to record anything on the Panasonic other than from its own tuner.

As both are recorders, why not use one at a time to record the programmes you are able to access?

sten wants to record programmes shown on the Virgin box on his Panasonic. It's not possible as the Panasonic will only record from its own tuner.

I would say

virgin to recorder via scart

virgin to tv via hdmi

recorder to tv via hdmi

tv aerial to recorder - for access to freeview signal

To record virgin, select relevant channel/av input in recorder

To record freeview select channel on recorder and record

To see virgin on tv - select relevant channel/av input

To see recorder and thus freeview, select relevant channel/av input on tv

To get virgin on recorder - select relevant channel/av for recorder on tv, then relevant channel/av on recorder for virgin.

The Virgin box doesn't record. I just have one hard drive recorder.

The Panasonic can ONLY record from its own built-in Freeview tuners.

Tuvok - there id NO SCART socket on the Panasonic.
