Song Playing At 2 Different Volumes.

A while back, someone transferred a vinyl LP onto CD for me.
I no longer have the CD, but the album is in my iTunes.
When the transfer from vinyl to CD was being done, the person turned up the volume in the middle of the song I wanted most, and so this track plays starting softly, and then gets louder!
Is there anything that can be done to make it play at the same volume throughout the track?
I don’t have the option of downloading the album/track, it’s a rare album and the CD’s sell for about £50.

Thanks.

Have you tried resetting the volume in Itunes?
Right click on album
Choose Get Info.
Choose Edit Items
Choose Options
Use Vol Slider.
Just a tip Bigbad. If you open up the album to show the tracks with a left click. You can then right click each track individually and the set it's volume level again using the same menu as in my first post. Good Luck.
it's not anywhere on YouTube, is it? It is possible (though as I understand it illegal) to download tracks from there into iTunes

Yes, thank you Togo, I keep all the songs in iTunes on full volume, but this one went into iTunes on 2 different volumes, and I want to make the whole track play at the same volume.
Question Author
Hmmm.
I wouldn't want to do anything dodgy, jno!
and you call yourself Bigbad!

You won't need this site then

As I said Bigbad, you can make the individual tracks play at different levels. If the tracks have been copird at different volume settings you can turn down the high level ones or the low level ones up. Or Both. All you need to know before you try is which tracks you want higher or lower in the iTunes library.
Try. Menu again.Top Left..Click Edit.
Click Preferences.
Click Playback if it is not already on that sub menu.
Check the "Sound Check" box, and thas should make all tracks in you library play at the same level. You may need to restart iTunes for it to take effect. Good Luck.
that's interesting, Togo, I think I'll try that myself.

I'm not sure it'll help Bigbad with a song that has two volume levels on the same track, it looks like a means of harmonising a whole collection rather than a single song.

Just tried it Togo, but the 5 minute track still increases in volume at 3.11.

I’ve had a quick look on YouTube, jno, just in case I decided to do something bad(ish), and the song is there.
I’ll have a think about it!

Thank you both for your help.
//By the way, this works with all types of music, because this is volume related, and I would recommend it for every genre. It should be clear that I’m not talking about the type of music, because obviously something like hard rock is going to be louder than soft rock, I am talking about the actual sound volume of the playback. The reason there is variation in overall volume can be due to a multitude of reasons, whether it’s the source audio, to the way it was ripped and turned into a digital format.//

From the link Jno. If that doesn't work looks like Bigbad is going to have to re-recorded it. Love my iTunes. :))
The waveform needs editing and with a half decent audio editing program such as Adobe Audition (formerly Cool Edit Pro) would be quite simple to do unfortunately this software is very expensive however there is a free audio editor called Audacity I have not used this piece of software but it may do what you require but remember free will not give you quality.
It may be easier if you said what track you are referring to and someone may be able to guide you to an available download
Question Author
Bertrum, I already have Audacity, but have only used it for ‘chopping up’ songs to use in a quiz.
I wouldn’t know how to use it for anything else.
If you are volunteering(!) the track is Medley: Thoroughly Modern Millie/Second Hand Rose/Mame from the 1968 album Live at London's Talk of the Town by Diana Ross and The Supremes.
Is this the one
Question Author
It is, thank you. But I just want an audio track that will go in iTunes, then on my iPods.
I can send an MP3 version if you have a throw away email address
I don't suppose that if it was a live recording from 1968 Bigbad, that it is there on the laid down vinyl track. Haha that would be test.
Question Author
The last time I had a throwaway email, I had all sorts of pervs and weirdos contacting me, so won’t risk it again.
Not that I think you are a perv or weirdo, Bertrum. In fact I appreciate your offer and think you’re a sweetie!
